This is the Daimon Hellstrom “Son of Satan” mini-bust I sculpted for Bowen Designs last year. It was great to get a chance to sculpt some torso anatomy after spending so much time strictly concentrating on portrait work for DC Direct.

Randy Bowen originally came up with the concept for this piece based of the cover of “Marvel Spotlight #13”, and he let me add some of my own ideas to it like including the large pentagram shape on the base. :headbang:

The majority of the piece was sculpted in Super Sculpey and Magic-Sculpt with the circular base being turned out of a block of wood on my miniature wood lathe.

If you dig it and would like to have one of your very own, you can preorder a copy from the Bowen Designs website here ---> [link]

Incredible! Can I ask, what is the white material?

Magic-Sculpt. It's a 2 part-epoxy that you mix together & it becomse ultra hard so you can carve into it and sand it. It's really strong so you can make ultra thin pieces with it and not have to worry too much about them snapping or breaking.

Ou ok , I though maybe it was some kind of sheet plastic, like styrene ... The edges look very sharp and precise on the white The spear even looks laser cut..

Well a smarter man probably would have made it out of styrene, but I did it this way so I could control the exact thickness of the forks in the spear. I rolled out a sheet of Magic-Sculpt thru a pasta maker, let it set up so it was hard, and then cut out the shape with a hand saw. Then I sanded the hell out of it to make sure the edges were clean. The center of the spear is just a wooden dowel that i stuck in a pencil sharpener and then sanded it to refine it. I glued them both together, filled all the gaps with more magic-sculpt, coated the whole thing with primer and sanded it some more.

Overall, it was a fairly ghetto way to do it but the results looks pretty professional. ;)

Well it sounds smart and clever, I would definitely go with this as well, as I have always found sanding easier than cutting sheet materials precisely :D
it does look really really truly professional.. Well, but then again , it doesn't have to look professional ,it is! and you are professional ;)
